Remarks given at Signet event in honor of Peter J. Gomes

I knew the Rev. Prof. Peter Gomes from Bates College, from Memorial Church, from the Lowell House Senior Common room, and from, of course, the Signet. When I came south to Harvard for graduate school, among the advice he gave was the suggestion that I always remember: "in life, it's not who you know, it's whom you know."

We knew him at different times, in different ways, and to different degrees. But all of us are better for having known him.
